Start with the basics

Create an inventory before creating a policy maze.

A useful AI governance program begins with a shared view of the tools and use cases in scope. Record a named owner, purpose, data involved, users and the decisions the system supports.

01

Govern

Set roles, policy expectations, approval thresholds and escalation routes.

02

Map

Describe the AI system's intended use, context, users, data and possible impacts.

03

Measure and manage

Choose proportionate evaluation, monitoring, response and review practices.

A practical review

Ask what can go wrong, who may be affected and how you will know.

Review privacy, security, reliability, transparency and human oversight in the context of the specific system. Record assumptions and limitations. Revisit them when the system or its use changes.

01

Check information handling

Consider data permissions, retention, confidentiality and whether sensitive information is sent to a provider.

02

Keep a human decision owner

Set who can approve use, review outputs and stop or escalate when behavior is unexpected.

03

Plan a regular review

Reassess material changes to the model, provider, data, users or intended use.

Product scope

Guidance about AI, without implying AI features in Auditstead.

This page is educational. Auditstead does not currently use AI to assess controls, score risks, generate policies, monitor models or automate AI governance. You can use workspace policies and vendor records to document your own decisions manually.

01

Use a recognized reference

The NIST AI RMF is voluntary guidance organized around Govern, Map, Measure and Manage.

02

Tailor to your situation

The NIST Playbook is a companion resource, not a universal checklist or a mandated sequence.
